Stainless Steel Honeycomb Core
High-temperature, corrosion- and fire-resistant

High-temperature, corrosion- and fire-resistant
Expanded stainless foil in 304, 316L and 321 grades, supplied adhesively bonded or vacuum-brazed. Brazed stainless keeps its strength to far higher temperatures than aluminium and resists aggressive chemicals and salt, which is why it is specified for exhaust and engine structures, acoustic liners and marine hardware. 316L adds molybdenum for chloride-pitting resistance; 321 is stabilised for sustained high-temperature service. Denser and costlier than aluminium — chosen when temperature, corrosion or fire performance rule aluminium out.
- Density
- 130 – 720 kg/m³ (8 – 45 pcf)
- Service temp
- to ~400 °C bonded; ~815 °C vacuum-brazed
Strengths
- Retains strength at high temperature
- Excellent corrosion and chemical resistance (316L, 321)
- Non-combustible — suits fire-rated assemblies
- Vacuum-brazed joints give a monolithic, solvent-proof core
Watch for
- Several times the density of aluminium
- Higher material and processing cost
- Heavier to handle and machine
