Tin Honeycomb Core
Economical conductive core for shielded airflow

Economical conductive core for shielded airflow
Tin-plated steel foil, an economical conductive alternative to brass for EMI-shielded ventilation. The tin coating gives a solderable, corrosion-protected surface over a steel substrate, so the core shields and vents at lower cost where the very highest conductivity of brass is not required. Common in shielded vents and air-flow apertures on instrument and server enclosures.
- Density
- 250 – 760 kg/m³ (16 – 47 pcf)
- Service temp
- to ~150 °C
Strengths
- Conductive and solderable at lower cost than brass
- Good EMI attenuation with open airflow
- Tin plating resists corrosion and aids bonding
- Robust steel substrate
Watch for
- Lower conductivity than brass or aluminium
- Heavier than aluminium
- Plating must stay intact to prevent substrate corrosion
Typical applications
Cost-sensitive EMI-shielded ventsInstrument and server enclosure airflowShielded cabinet aperturesVentilated electronic housings
